Become a Member

CEANYC has three membership categories: Member, Supporter, and Honorary Member. 

Members: Entities, not individuals, which are any of the following solidarity economy formations: consumer cooperatives, worker cooperatives, producer cooperatives, low-income housing cooperatives, community development credit unions, cooperative development loan funds, community gardens, mutual housing associations, time banks, barter networks, and community land trusts. Any association of these types operating in the five boroughs is also eligible for membership.

Groups that are incubating any of the above formations may also join as members. These may include community-based and social justice organizations, trade unions, and cultural organizations, and solidarity economy enterprises and associations. Groups must be based in New York City or have a significant investment in the five boroughs.

Supporter: Any entity or individual who affirms the principles and objectives of CEANYC. Entities should not fit into any of the sectoral categories, i.e neighborhood or political associations or parties, market-rate housing cooperatives, national organizations and cooperatives, coalitions, and media groups.  Each has the right to attend events upon invitation, such as the public sessions of the annual meeting. They do not have the right to vote in member meetings or to be elected to the Board, however Supporting Members may serve on the Board of Directors by appointment.

Honorary Member: The Board of Directors can always nominate honorary members (entities or organizations) of CEANYC who have donated or expressed support for the group’s goals. Honorary members may participate in activities and attend meetings upon invitation but cannot vote or be elected to the Board of Directors.
